Cecil. Floor Lamps. May 29th , 2018.
More and more people are learning to appreciate the quality and styling of antique floor lamps especially as most of the ones being produced today are molded plastic and literally made to be thrown away. Most all floor lamp makers from the turn of the century made their lamps from heavy metals such as cast iron brass steel and cast zinc sometimes combined with marble onyx glass and stone. Our lamp shop regularly restores these antique floor lamps for resale as well as for our customers` own use. From our 30 years of experience it is clear that many of these antique floor lamps will last for hundreds of years. The electrical components the fabric shades and the painted finishes often need restoration but most were made with such fine quality that they are a much better value than brand new high end lamps that sell for many hundreds of dollars. You will find some other surprises about these collectible works of art below.
Look around your friends` houses and you will find out that an arch floor lamp is a very uncommon choice when it comes to lamps but once you know how this lamp can be of advantage you will want to have one in your home. Basically arch floor lamps are designed to be stationed on the floor - hence its name. They are generally tall and their neck is in the shape of an arc. The necks of these lamps are usually flexible so you can adjust their shape into the purpose you want them to accomplish. If you want your living room adequately lit you can place the floor lamp in one corner and straighten it out to spread the light. Should you want your guests to focus their attention to a furniture such as the sofa for a sit-down or a coffee table with a tray of coffee mugs put out for them you can bend over the lamp and focus its lighting on them. You can even bend the lamps backward so it will light the room romantically without having anyone look at the light and blind themselves.
Some skills are easier than others to gain when considering beautifying our surroundings. As an example decorating with floor lamps takes little skill but it does take forethought. Effective interior designers generally have a properly considered plan for success and now we offer several of their easiest and most economical strategies to share with you.
Mix and Match Color Bulbs to Match Lampshades. The unique part of purchasing a floor lamp is that you may change lampshades to the base of your favorite lamp just as you can match different colored light bulbs to create varying effects within a room. Depending on the time of day and other outside factors various lampshade colors transform light into an array of shades but red blue green and even yellow lights can establish the atmosphere into a controlled setting such as a romantic environment to a room set aside for contemplation withdrawal or reflection.
A few common features of antique lamps include the stained-glass lampshade brass finishes and intricate designs. When one is interested in truly decorating their home with antique floor lamps genuine specimens may cost quite a bit such as French antique lamps carrying a price tag of more than thousands of dollars. Usually an antique or antique-styled floor lamp is selected because of its look and fit within a setting rather than bringing light into the room.
