Cecil. End Tables. May 29th , 2018.
Coffee tables and end tables should also meet the purpose you have intended for them. In some cases this will be simply as a repository for a coffee cup or drinks glass. For others it might mean holding countless magazines or `coffee table` books. Whatever your purpose is your occasional tables should meet your needs while also matching the rest of the furniture in the room - or by contrasting with it by design.
Coffee Tables and End Tables: Placement. The end table should be placed right up beside the arm of the chair. Not directly in contact because any subsequent movement of then chair could easily shake the table and spill the contents of any container. Coffee tables should be placed 18" from the sofa enough room to enable you to walk between the two items of furniture but not so far as to place your cup out of each.
Another thing to factor in is the visual weight. If you purchase metal and glass tables for example they will not carry the same weight as a wood table. As such you can go with something that`s a bit larger or which makes a bigger statement. It will have the same impact on the room as a smaller wood table. If it has extensive use of glass such as having top and bottom shelves that are glass you can scale up even a bit more.
As far as the coffee and end table sets themselves you need to pay particular attention to the size of the pieces. These sets come in all sizes and shapes and you want to make sure that the ones you fall in love with don`t overwhelm the room or look Lilliputian next to your mammoth sectional. Beyond style and size you really want to think about features. While you wouldn`t ordinarily think about a piece of furniture as having desirable features coffee and end table sets can have an endless array.
An end table is intended to make it easy for people sitting in an armchair to reach their drinks nibbles or books and newspapers without having to bend down over the side of their chair to do so. The same with a coffee table - it should be set at a comfortable height. Your first priority should therefore be the dimensions of your coffee and end tables. A coffee table should ideally be at just above knee height. Your end tables should be level with the arm of the chair or sofa. This will enable you to each to the side and pick up a drink with very little effort. Too high or too low and it is more easy to spill even to drop your cup or glass.
